Tina Herchenröther, 1998 in Frankfurt am Main geboren, lebt dort und arbeitet im Atelier Goldstein in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen. Ihre Arbeiten wurden unter anderem im Lenbachhaus München, im Kunst | Haus 2226 in Lustenau, in der Galerie L’Atlas in Paris, im Künstlerhaus Dortmund und im Neuen Kunstraum Düsseldorf gezeigt.
Als junge Künstlerin im Atelier Goldstein thematisiert Tina Herchenröther Erfahrungen und Sehnsüchte ihrer Generation und entfaltet gleichsam eine zeitgenössische Ikonografie, innerhalb der sie Themen wie Diversität, Rollenbilder, Posen der Stärke sowie körperliche Selbstbestimmung verhandelt. Gleichzeitig eröffnet Herchenröther in ihren Malereien eine zweite Erzählebene der Farbe: Sie orientiert sich zwar ganz selbstverständlich an der Zeichnung, entwickelt in den rohen, farbintensiven Flächen jedoch ein Eigenleben jenseits der Bilderzählung. Körperteile, Haare, Haut, Kleidung und Alltagsobjekte leuchten dem Betrachtenden in einem üppigen Kolorit entgegen.
Es ist der bewusste Verzicht auf eine naturalistische Darstellung in Form und Farbe, der die Motive vor einem meist weiß belassenem Hintergrund hervortreten lässt – offen für Mehrdeutigkeit, fern von normativen Zuschreibungen und Körperidealen.
Tina Herchenröther lotet damit bewusst und spielerisch die Grenzen zwischen Zeichnung und Malerei aus. Ihre Figuren, oft inspiriert von medialen oder popkulturellen Vorlagen, erfahren in der zeichnerischen und malerischen Übertragung auf Papier oder Leinwand eine konsequente Transformation.
Herchenröthers unerschrockener Einsatz von Material und Technik bietet jedem Abbild genügend Raum für das Unerwartete und Intuitive. Dabei werden Identitäten und Eigenschaften neu verhandelt, Normen hinterfragt und Grenzen lustvoll ausgetestet – durch Überzeichnung, Verschiebung und Neudeutung.

As a young artist in Atelier Goldstein, Tina Herchenröther addresses the experiences and longings of her generation and unfolds a contemporary iconography, as it were, within which she negotiates themes such as diversity, role models, poses of strength and bodily self-determination. At the same time, Herchenröther opens up a second narrative level of color in her paintings: although it is quite naturally oriented towards drawing, it develops a life of its own in the raw, color-intensive surfaces beyond the pictorial narrative. Body parts, hair, skin, clothing and everyday objects shine towards the viewer in a lush coloring.
It is the deliberate renunciation of naturalistic representation in form and color that allows the motifs to emerge against a background that is mostly white – open to ambiguity, far removed from normative attributions and body ideals.
Tina Herchenröther consciously and playfully explores the boundaries between drawing and painting. Her figures, often inspired by media or pop culture templates, undergo a consistent transformation in the graphic and painterly transfer to paper or canvas.
Herchenröther’s fearless use of material and technology offers each image enough space for the unexpected and intuitive. In the process, identities and characteristics are renegotiated, norms are questioned and boundaries are tested with relish – through exaggeration, displacement and reinterpretation.
