Biography

Sandra Val
Lives and works in Madrid

Her proposal focuses on rescuing cultural identification codes from memory through the recombination of everyday and architectural elements. To do so, she builds scenarios that pose utopia and timelessness.

Her investigations start from a liminal state where pieces of tradition and present converge, which she herself transmutes and redefines, creating stories and new dialogues that speak to us of time and space. In her work she uses materials such as ceramics, metal, textile or glass to generate works that move between the familiar and the strange, through the construction of specific scenarios. A wide symbolic universe coming from architectures related to cult and power spaces.
Graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid where she also studied a Master of Research in Art and Creation. She has obtained grants and residencies including artistic production grant, international cultural cooperation initiative with the participation of CCECR, Plataforma CanĂbal, Building Bridges Art Exchange, Red de Centros Arthouse Spain and MAV 2020; artistic production grant for the Biennial of Women in the Visual Arts 2022 and Co-net Art 2022 residency. During 2023 she opens her last solo exhibition in Madrid with Ginsberg Gallery, participates in the Korea International Ceramics Biennial and the Manises International Ceramics Biennial in Valencia. His work has been exhibited at the Barjola Museum in GijĂ³n, at the C.A.V. La NeomudĂ©jar Museum in Madrid, at the Provincial Museum of Teruel, at the Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art in Korea and at different institutions in Spain, Portugal, Costa Rica, Colombia and the United States.
